Ernest R Burton D.C.M. died on Sunday 14th March 1915.

He was killed in action in France & Flanders, having previously been awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal, the citation for which reads: ‘For conspicuous gallantry at Festubert on 25th October 1914 in voluntarily conveying messages on several occasions over fire-swept ground and also for rescuing a wounded comrade whilst exposed to the fire of snipers’.

George Samuel Dearsley died on Thursday 29th October 1914, aged 29.

Herbert Edward Missin died on Friday 23rd August 1918, aged 20.

Herbert Missin was born in Ten Mile Bank. He was the son of James William and Jane Missin, also of Ten Mile Bank, and brother of Joseph (below). He served as a Private in the 17th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment) – service No G/64084, having previously served with the East Kent Regiment (Buffs) – service number 6258. He was killed in action in France & Flanders.

Joseph Missin died on Thursday 12th August 1915, aged 22.

Joseph Missin was born in Southery. In the CWGC Register, he is shown as the son of James William and Joel Missin of Ten Mile Bank, but is seems likely that this is an error and should read James William and Jane Missin, making him the brother of Herbert (above). Joseph Missin served as a Private in ‘A’ Company of the 1/5th Battalion (Territorial Force), Norfolk Regiment – service No 2173. He died in Gallipoli.

George Thomas Moore died on Tuesday 31st July 1917, aged 22.

George Moore was born in Hilgay and lived in Downham Market. He was the son of Sabina Thurling (formerly Moore) of Ten Mile Bank, and the late George Thomas Moore. George Moore jnr served as a Private in No 3 Company, 1st Battalion, Coldstream Guards – service No 16985 – and was killed in action in France & Flanders.

Harold Porter was born in Hilgay and lived at 34 South Street, East Road, Cambridge with his wife, Mary Elizabeth. He was the son of Robert Porter of Hilgay. Harold Porter served as a Lace Corporal in the 2nd Battalion, Essex Regiment – service No 41235, having previously served with the Suffolk Regiment – service number 33557.
